Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian reportedly said on Thursday that the country is willing to make a peace deal with the U.S. before the November midterms.
Pezeshkian Counters Trump’s Claim
Speaking on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, Pezeshkian said Iran does not want talks to stretch until the elections, The Hill reported.
He urged the U.S. to return to the June memorandum of understanding that had established the framework for a temporary ceasefire before it collapsed.
Notably, President Donald Trump said in his UN address that his administration could reach a peace agreement with Iran after the midterms.
Meanwhile, Pezeshkian said in a Fox interview that his country does not seek war, but is forced to defend itself when attacked.
“We never started a war, but if they wish to keep fighting with us, we will respond strongly and resolutely,” he added.

Betting crowd on Polygon (CRYPTO: POL)-based Polymarket now assigns an 8% chance that the U.S. and Iran reach an agreement over traffic in the Strait of Hormuz by Sept. 30, up 5 percentage points in a week.
Moreover, the probability of the U.S. lifting the naval blockade of Iran by month-end stayed low at 9%, rising only slightly to 31% by the end of October.
