Mynd.ai Inc. (NYSE:MYND) stock jumped more than 21% in Thursday premarket trading after its Promethean subsidiary launched an artificial intelligence tool that helps teachers create lesson materials in seconds.
The micro-cap stock saw unusually heavy trading, with session volume surging to 5.48 million shares versus a 100-day average of about 30,700. Mynd.ai had a market capitalization of roughly $14.5 million based on the previous close.
Stocks of this size typically have lower trading liquidity and smaller public floats than large-cap companies. As a result, a relatively modest increase in buying or selling can produce outsized price moves.
The elevated turnover suggests the announcement drew unusually strong investor interest. However, micro-cap stocks can also reverse quickly because limited liquidity can magnify moves in either direction.
Promethean Adds AI To Lesson-Creation Platform
Promethean said Wednesday that it launched AI Companion for its Explain Everything app. The tool uses on-device artificial intelligence through Apple Intelligence.
Teachers can select text, images, or drawings within an Explain Everything page and use the tool to generate lesson plans, quizzes, vocabulary lists, and classroom activities.
The generated material appears directly inside the Explain Everything canvas. As a result, teachers can edit and use the content without switching between platforms.
AI Companion can also create audio narration, translate text, and generate accessibility descriptions.

On-Device Processing Targets Privacy Concerns
Promethean said the AI functions run entirely on the user’s device. The tool can operate without an internet connection, and data does not leave the device.
That structure could help schools limit the privacy and administrative issues tied to sending classroom information to third-party AI services.
Explain Everything has been downloaded more than 25 million times worldwide and was previously named an Apple App Store Editors’ Choice.
Promethean Executive Vice President and Chief Revenue Officer Michael Strand said the tool aims to reduce the manual work involved in creating tailored and accessible teaching materials.
AI Companion is available on compatible devices running iPadOS 27 or iOS 27 and later with Apple Intelligence enabled. The feature is available to Explain Everything Advanced and Pro subscribers at no additional cost.
