Shares of Acuity Inc. (NYSE:AYI) are trading lower Thursday morning despite reporting fiscal fourth-quarter earnings that topped Wall Street estimates, as a modest top-line revenue shortfall in its core lighting business weigh on investor sentiment.

Here’s what investors need to know.

Q4 Earnings Beat Countered by Revenue Shortfall

For the fourth quarter ended Aug. 31, Acuity reported adjusted diluted earnings of $5.77 per share, beating the analyst consensus estimate of $5.66 per share and marking an 11% increase from $5.20 per share a year earlier. GAAP diluted earnings per share jumped 56% to $5.63.

Quarterly net sales rose 2.9% year-over-year to $1.244 billion, but fell just short of the consensus expectation of $1.254 billion. Operating profit for the quarter rose 25.7% to $227 million, expanding operating margin by 330 basis points to 18.2%. Results were bolstered by $44.9 million in tariff refunds, partially offset by $17.8 million in special charges related to facility impairments and portfolio restructuring.

Segment Divergence: Lighting Lags While Intelligent Spaces Surges

The quarterly top-line miss was driven by soft performance in the company’s flagship lighting unit. Acuity Brands Lighting saw net sales decline 0.4% year-over-year to $958.7 million, while segment adjusted operating profit fell 7.1% to $179.8 million as management executed supply chain and operational footprint realignments.

In contrast, Acuity Intelligent Spaces generated strong growth, with net sales surging 16.6% year-over-year to $297.6 million, driving a 35.7% jump in segment adjusted operating profit to $74.1 million.

Full-Year Summary and Executive Commentary

For the full fiscal year 2026, Acuity reported total net sales of $4.64 billion, up 6.8% year-over-year, and delivered adjusted diluted EPS of $19.90 while generating $825.6 million in operating cash flow.

“We demonstrated solid execution in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026. We grew sales and expanded our adjusted operating profit and adjusted operating profit margin,” said Neil Ashe, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Acuity.

“Throughout fiscal 2026 we strengthened Acuity Brands Lighting while continuing to scale Acuity Intelligent Spaces, building the operating and financial capacity needed to compound growth and value over time,” Ashe added.
