California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) on Sunday took a dig at President Donald Trump’s pitch that voters treat the midterms as if he were running.
Newsom Jabs Trump
Trump said during his Thursday rally in Durant, Oklahoma, that the Republicans “do great” when he is on the ballot, and people “don’t go and vote” when he isn’t there.
“Pretend I’m running, please,” Trump urged the crowd. “Just because I am on the ballot and if we don’t win, they’ll end up impeaching me.”
Newsom took a swipe at Trump, saying, “Please vote like Donald Trump is running.”
Newsom has repeatedly criticized Trump’s policies, particularly those related to artificial intelligence, surging gasoline and diesel prices, the war with Iran and cryptocurrency projects, including memecoins.
Trump’s handling of inflation registered just 19% approval in September polls, marking the worst such reading for any U.S. president.
Will Trump Be Really Impeached?
Bettors on Polygon (CRYPTO: POL)-based Polymarket currently price in only a 2% chance that Trump gets impeached before Dec. 31, though the likelihood increases to 58% before Dec. 31, 2027.

Meanwhile, bettors on Kalshi assigned a 62% chance that Trump would be impeached before completing his term.
The House holds the exclusive authority to initiate impeachment proceedings. The Senate then holds a trial and decides whether to convict or acquit the president.
Trump is the only U.S. president in history to be impeached twice, although he hasn’t been convicted.
Kalshi and Benzinga have an existing data collaboration agreement.
