Rocket Lab Corp (NASDAQ:RKLB) shares are slipping Wednesday, pulling back after rising on a report that NASA is close to buying launches in bulk for its moon base plans.

Rocket Lab Gets Boost From Reported NASA Bulk Launch Purchase

Wednesday’s drop follows Tuesday’s gain, which came after Bloomberg reported that NASA is nearing a large order of launches for its $30 billion effort to build a permanent moon base. Launch demand across the space industry is climbing faster than rocket supply. NASA hopes to dodge the resulting bottleneck by securing several types of rockets today.

Carlos García-Galán, NASA’s moon base program manager, said the agency will probably reveal its first bulk purchases soon. A single batch could cover four or five different rockets. Each would be paired with a commercial lander that NASA wants on the moon. NASA could also share any spare launch capacity with other government agencies or additional interested parties.

Rocket Lab’s link to NASA’s plan runs through Neutron, an upcoming rocket that could serve as an alternative to SpaceX’s Falcon 9. The Falcon 9 is the world’s busiest rocket, but a slowdown is coming. SpaceX has begun turning down satellite operators that have requested dedicated Falcon 9 launches after 2028.

Rocket Lab previously ran from its 52-week low of $37.57 on Nov. 21, 2025 to a 52-week high of approximately $151 on May 27, and since that high it has traded as low as $58.20. The stock is currently above its 20-day and 50-day moving averages but below its 200-day moving average, and it’s trading between support near $61.00 and resistance around $75.50.

Reports that SpaceX is seeking to raise $40 billion to purchase Nvidia chips appears to be weighing on space-related names more broadly. Several space stocks were trading lower at last check after strong performances the day before.
