Super Micro Computer, Inc. (NASDAQ:SMCI) shares rose about 2% on Wednesday after a Wall Street Journal report said AI data-center provider Lambda is raising $4 billion in a final funding round ahead of a planned initial public offering, according to Benzinga Pro.

The stock was rising even as the Technology sector was down, with the Information Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLK) off 0.50%.

Lambda‘s $4 Billion Funding

NVIDIA-backed cloud infrastructure startup Lambda is raising roughly $4 billion in a final pre-IPO funding round that values the company at $14.5 billion before the new capital, according to the Wall Street Journal.

For Super Micro, the headline matters because Lambda’s business is tied to building and running AI computing capacity, and that kind of spending is closely connected to demand for the servers and data-center systems Super Micro sells.

Super Micro stock has gained more than 50% in 2026, supported by AI infrastructure demand, its order backlog and product launches built around next-generation NVIDIA Corp. (NASDAQ:NVDA) architectures.

Blackstone and Coatue Management are leading the round, which comes ahead of Lambda’s planned 2027 IPO.

Lambda’s order backlog rose from $15 billion in June to $50 billion in September 2026, driven largely by a $35 billion commitment from Anthropic.

Analysts Remain Cautious

Super Micro carries a Hold consensus rating with an average price forecast of $40.50.

Mizuho maintained a Neutral rating and raised its forecast to $43 on Oct. 6. Citigroup maintained a Neutral rating and lifted its forecast to $39 on Aug. 12, while Goldman Sachs maintained a Sell rating and raised its forecast to $34 the same day.

ETF Exposure Adds Trading Sensitivity

Super Micro carries a 4.40% weight in the iShares Future AI & Tech ETF, 4.94% in the iShares U.S. Digital Infrastructure and Real Estate ETF and 3.74% in the ERShares Entrepreneurs ETF.

Those positions mean significant fund inflows or outflows can translate into corresponding buying or selling pressure on Super Micro shares.

SMCI Price Action: Super Micro Computer shares were up 2.08% at $44.36 at the time of publication on Wednesday, according to Benzinga Pro data.
