Lucid Group, Inc. (NASDAQ:LCID) is taking a new step into Europe’s luxury electric vehicle market, with France set to become a larger part of its retail strategy in 2027.

The expansion gives Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) another premium EV competitor to watch, though Lucid’s challenge is not just winning customers — it is building a service network and converting high-end interest into sustained deliveries.

Lucid Targets France in 2027

Lucid plans to open its first three retail and service locations in France in the first quarter of 2027, with more than 16 partner locations targeted by the end of that year. The company announced the rollout on Oct. 12, naming Emil Frey France as its partner.

The planned locations will allow customers to experience and order both the Lucid Air sedan and Gravity SUV. Reservations with priority for future ordering are already available through Lucid’s French website, while orders are expected to open in the first quarter of 2027.

The company advertises up to 960 kilometers of WLTP range for the Air and up to 739 kilometers for the Gravity. The Gravity also offers seating for up to seven, giving Lucid a larger SUV to pitch to buyers who want luxury, space and electric performance.

France is an attractive market to target. Electric vehicles accounted for 42% of new car registrations in September, according to Reuters.

Tesla Has the Established Network

Tesla already has a substantial footprint in France, with stores and service centers listed across major regions on its official French locations page.

Lucid’s partnership with Emil Frey France gives it a route to expand through an established automotive retail network rather than relying entirely on company-operated sites.

For Tesla, the competitive question is whether Lucid can turn its product specifications into a credible alternative for buyers considering high-end electric sedans and SUVs. France’s growing EV market creates an opportunity, but Tesla’s existing presence gives it a head start.

Lucid’s Execution Test

The expansion also comes as Lucid works through a more immediate challenge: scaling demand and deliveries.

The company delivered 3,806 vehicles in the third quarter of 2026, below the average analyst estimate of 4,687. Production fell to 2,954 vehicles as Lucid reduced output and worked through inventory under a cost-cutting plan.

For investors, the key milestones will be whether Lucid opens its first three sites on schedule, reaches its target of more than 16 partner locations by the end of 2027 and builds demand for the Air and Gravity in France.

Lucid’s French expansion strengthens its route to European luxury EV buyers, but execution remains the bigger test. Tesla’s established network is an advantage; Lucid must prove that its products and new retail presence can generate sustained sales.
